Terms & Conditions
The agreement between us when you book tutoring — what I provide, what it costs, and how cancellations and refunds work.
1. Who these terms are with
These terms are between you — the parent or legal guardian booking tutoring — and Sinéad Scully, an independent tutor based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Booking a session means you accept them. Where the student is under 18, a parent or guardian must make the booking.
2. What I provide
One-to-one online tutoring in English, delivered by video call on Google Meet. Sessions are 60 minutes unless we agree otherwise. Written feedback follows each session, shared with you through Google Drive. I teach IB Diploma English A (Language and Literature, and Literature) at Standard and Higher Level, and Junior Secondary English for Years 7 to 11 — Key Stage 3 and 4, and the IB Middle Years Programme.
I am an independent tutor. I am not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by the International Baccalaureate Organization, Cambridge Assessment International Education, or any other examination board or awarding body.
3. The free consultation
Before any paid work, we hold a 30-minute video consultation at no cost. It carries no obligation on either side, and I may suggest I'm not the right fit — in which case I'll say so and, where I can, point you elsewhere.
4. Fees and payment
Fees are in UAE Dirhams. A single session is AED 350. Packs are AED 1,300 for 4 sessions and AED 3,600 for 12 sessions.
All packs are paid in full before the first session. There is no subscription, no recurring charge and nothing to cancel. Sessions are released for booking once payment clears.
5. Booking, rescheduling and missed sessions
- Sessions are booked through Calendly using the link you receive after payment.
- You may reschedule or cancel a session free of charge with at least 24 hours' notice.
- Less than 24 hours' notice, or a student not attending, counts as a session used.
- If I need to move a session, I'll give you as much notice as I can and the session is not deducted.
- If a student is more than 15 minutes late without contact, I may end the session and count it as used.
6. How long a pack lasts
Sessions in a pack must be used within 6 months of purchase. If illness or exams get in the way, tell me — I'd rather extend a pack than see it wasted.
7. Refunds
You may request a refund on unused sessions within 14 days of purchase. Sessions already taught, and sessions counted as used under clause 5, aren't refundable. Refunds go back to the original payment method.
Confirm before launch: the 24-hour notice period, 6-month validity and 14-day refund window are placeholders. They're set in legal.terms in src/data/site.ts, and changing them there updates this page everywhere they appear.
8. What I can and can't promise
I'll teach to the IB assessment criteria and give honest, specific feedback. What I cannot promise is a particular grade or score. Results depend on the work a student puts in between sessions, their starting point, and the judgement of IB examiners I don't control. Any grade improvements mentioned elsewhere on this site are individual outcomes, not what you should expect.
I also don't write or co-write work submitted for assessment. The IB has strict academic-integrity rules and I won't put a student at risk of breaching them — I'll teach them to do the work, and I'll tell you if I'm asked to cross that line.
9. Conduct
Sessions are a calm, respectful space. I ask that students arrive with the relevant texts and any set work, and join from somewhere they can concentrate. I may end a session, without refund, if a student is abusive to me. That has never happened and I don't expect it to.
10. Recording and materials
Neither of us records a session without the other's agreement. Any resources, notes or model answers I share are mine, provided for the student's personal study — please don't circulate or resell them.
11. Liability
Nothing here limits liability where the law doesn't allow it. Otherwise, my liability in connection with this agreement is limited to the amount you've paid for the sessions concerned.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, and the courts of Dubai have jurisdiction over any dispute.
13. Changes and contact
I may update these terms; the version that applies to you is the one in force when you paid. Questions to sineadscully1@gmail.com.
