Frequently asked questions

What is IB English tutoring, and how does it differ from regular English tutoring?

IB English is assessed against a very specific set of criteria across Paper 1, Paper 2, the Individual Oral and the HL essay.

How are the tutoring sessions conducted?

All sessions are online and conducted using Google Meet. Documents and feedback are shared via Google Drive.

Can the tutoring be customised to my specific needs or weaknesses?

Yes — every plan starts with a free consultation. Parents and students are both welcome to join. We'll talk through where things are proving difficult and look at some recent work, so tutoring is shaped around your child from the outset.

What should I expect in a typical English tutoring session?

A short review of what we last worked on, focused teaching on one skill or text, timed practice, then feedback on what to change.

How many sessions will I need to prepare for the English exam?

Each student's needs are different. Some seek support as exams approach, in which case, they may opt for 4 sessions. Those wanting full coverage of every component may choose the 12 session pack.

What if I need help with a specific English assignment or project?

Academic integrity is central to how I teach. I'll help your child build the skills the assignment needs — planning, structuring, redrafting — but I won't write or edit the piece they submit.

How much does IB English tutoring cost?

A single 60-minute one-to-one session is AED 350. The 4-session pack is AED 1,300, which works out at AED 325 a session. The 12-session pack is AED 3,600, or AED 300 a session. Small groups of two to four students are AED 250 per student, per hour. All packs are paid upfront.

Do you offer small group tutoring as well as one-to-one?

Yes. Small groups of two to four students at a similar level are AED 250 per student, per hour, taught together for 60 minutes online. One-to-one is still the default, and the free consultation is the place to work out which suits your child.

What are your qualifications?

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from University College Cork and a BA English Literature, Politics & Sociology from University of Galway. I have taught English since 2011 across Irish, British, Australian and International curricula, and have held middle and senior leadership roles as Diploma Coordinator, Head of English and Extended Essay Coordinator.

Do you tutor iGCSE and Middle Years Programme English, or only the IB Diploma?

Both. Alongside IB Diploma English A: Language and Literature and English A: Literature at Standard and Higher Level, I support students in Years 7 to 11 — Key Stage 3 and 4, International GCSE, and the IB Middle Years Programme.

How do I get started?

Book a free 30-minute consultation using any button on this page. Parents and students are both welcome on the call. We'll talk through your child's goals, and if it's a good fit you'll get a booking link to choose session times that fit around school.

Where are you based, and can you teach students in other countries?

I am Irish but I'm based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Every session is online, so students can join from anywhere. Times are arranged around your time zone as well as your child's school schedule.
